Got an interesting call this morning, and it appears Jaguars DT Tony McDaniel is on the trading block.
According to a source, requesting anonymity because he isn't authorized to discuss potential transactions, the Jaguars called Detroit more than a week ago to see if the Lions would be interested. Coincidentally, Detroit is where Jaguars former vice president of player personnel, James "Shack"
Harris, is now a personnel executive. Interestingly, Harris - during his time in Jacksonville - was never sold on McDaniel because the 6-7, 310-pound defensive tackle was never considered a full-time starter in college. Add to that what happened to Harris in Jacksonville, and you can probably guess what Detroit's answer was to the Jags' inquiry.
A three-year veteran, McDaniel has played in 24 career games, contributing 37 tackles and 1.5 sacks. The Jags staff at one time thought McDaniel possessed enough potential to eventually become a starter opposite John Henderson (click here to see Henderson's outrageous pre-game warmup). But for the most part, he's been disappointing in limited action (although injuries have also been a factor).
The Jaguars also appear to be shopping TE George Wrighster for a possible trade. Injuries have also played a role in Wrighster's recent dip in production. Wrighster has posted 94 career receptions for 850 yards and can be a dangerous threat to run after the catch. But he's been able to stay healthy for just two of his six seasons as a Jag. At the end of last season, Wrighster told me he didn't expect to be back. Then my question was, "Dude, aren't you under contract?"
Maybe Wrighster knew something I didn't at the time.
Also, there also seem to be rumors making the rounds about the Jags planning to make a move with Henderson. None of my sources have said that, but that doesn't mean it's not true. I'll dig around and see if there's anything to this. What I do know is that Henderson IS being discussed extensively inside the building.
...Peace, for now.
