Detroit Lions defensive end Jared DeVries and two other NFL players from Aplington-Parkersburg High School are pitching in to help rebuild the school destroyed by a deadly tornado that hit northeast Iowa on May 25.
DeVries, Casey Weigmann of the Denver Broncos and Brad Meester of the Jacksonville Jaguars signed autographs Sunday during a fundraiser at a sports bar in Cedar Falls. A fourth player, Aaron Kampman of the Green Bay Packers, couldn't make it.
T-shirts sold for $10. Hats were $20.
The goal was $100,000.
At an auction later in the evening, a Miley Cyrus guitar brought in $10,000.
