The Jaguars hit the bottom of the AFC South with a thud after Monday's loss to Houston and now are gearing for a spoiler's role.
The Jags (4-8) play Chicago, Green Bay, Indianapolis and Baltimore to end the season — all teams that are involved in playoff fights.
"We're involved in games that are very impactful,"
Coach Jack Del Rio said Wednesday. "Right now we're in that spoiler mode. All four teams we're playing down the stretch have playoff aspirations and we can play that spoiler role. It's making the best out of your situation. That's where we are."
LB Justin Durant agreed.
"I want to make someone feel like me,"
he said. "It hurts right now."
Some, however, just want to get a win after losing three in a row and five of six games.
"We don't care what their goals are,"
S Gerald Sensabaugh said. "We're trying to win a game."
Mathis lost for season
Del Rio said CB Rashean Mathis is likely lost for the season after suffering a "significant"
MCL sprain to his knee against Houston.
The injury will not require surgery but Mathis is expected to go on injured reserve.
"He won't be available the rest of the season,"
Del Rio said. "By the time they get him going again we'll be out of time."
Del Rio said Drayton Florence, who lost his starting job earlier this season, will start for Mathis.
Jones to New York
WR Matt Jones is scheduled to be in New York today to meet with the league concerning a suspension because of his drug arrest during the summer.
Jones is appealing a three-game suspension.
