The Atlanta Falcons waited about eight minutes to launch the Matt Ryan era.
They'll have to wait longer for Ryan's first win.
Jacksonville rested Fred Taylor and lost three fumbles but still had enough offense to beat the Falcons, 20-17, on Saturday night in the preseason opener for both teams.
The Falcons scored only three points off lost fumbles by three Jacksonville rookies - running backs Lavarus Giles and Chauncey Washington and return specialist Brian Witherspoon.
New Falcons coach Mike Smith, who came to Atlanta after five years as the Jaguars' defensive coordinator, played each of his four quarterbacks.
Smith didn't send kicker Jason Elam on the field for a potential tying 39-yard field goal attempt on a fourth-and-11 play from the Jacksonville 22. Instead, quarterback D.J. Shockley scrambled 17 yards to the 5 with 26 seconds left.
Redskins 17, Bills 14
LANDOVER, Md. - After two games, the trend is hard to miss. Those Washington Redskins quarterbacks are looking pretty sharp under new coach Jim Zorn.
Whether it's Jason Campbell with the starters or Todd Collins with the backups, Washington's quarterbacks are putting up the kinds of numbers they would love to replicate in the regular season. The pair combined to go 15-for-21 in the first half of Saturday night's 17-14 victory over the Buffalo Bills.
Late Friday
Seahawks 34, Vikings 17
MINNEAPOLIS - Matt Hasselbeck and the Seattle Seahawks had no problem with Minnesota's upgraded defense.
Hasselbeck was 7-of-8 for 70 yards and a touchdown and the Seahawks racked up 187 total yards in three series against the Vikings' defensive starters in a 34-17 preseason victory on Friday night.
Maurice Morris got the start at running back ahead of Julius Jones and rushed for 62 yards on six carries in the first three drives against what was the league's top-ranked run defense last season.
